The New Hampshire State Shoot

2001

The New Hampshire State Shoot was held at 20th Skeet and Clays Club on Sept 7-9,2001 in Hookset New Hampshire. The weather was absolutely gorgeous.

We started the shoot on Friday with the Doubles Championship. With 16 participants Mark Vaillancourt was our new State Champion. Richard Gath finished up as RU. The Class Champions are Greg Welch AA1, Steve Livingston A1, Felipe Garcia B1, Al Morel C1, and Jef Livingston D1.

We had 23 competitors shoot 8,800 targets on two fields nestled in against Quimbly Mountain. The shoot was originally scheduled earlier in the year at Lone Pine Hunters Club in Hollis NH but had to be rescheduled due to a conflict between the club and the town of Hollis. I want to publicly thank the 20th Skeet and Clays for letting us hold our shoot at their facility on what was short notice.

The 20 gauge event was shot on Saturday morning and when it was all over Ken Pitman had captured another NH State Title with the lone 100 , Mark Vaillancourt was RU and the class champions were Joe Pachucki A1, Greg Williams B1, Russ Longley C1, and Jan Kwiecinski D1.

Greg Welch bested the field in 28 gauge to bring home the State title. Richard Gath won the RU in a shoot off over Ken Pitman. The Class champions were Ken Pitman A1, Felipe Garcia B1, Al Morel C1, and Russel Haskell D1.

Saturday night saw a dinner that was one of best I have attended in years. There was a Pork Roast supplied by the NHSSA and dishes of every sort. We could have fed 150 shooters. Each and every single dish was excellent and that is what makes these shoots so special. The dessert table alone is enough reason to come back every year. After the Dinner we had award presentations and Calcutta auction. The Calcutta was a huge success raising 640 bucks for some lucky shooter/s.

Sunday morning started out with great anticipation and when it was over we had two people who were perfect with a score of 100. On to the Shoot off field came Greg Williams and Mark Vaillancourt. A full round of Doubles was shot off and Mark Vaillancourt won the shoot off and his 2nd State Title. Greg Williams was RU and the Class winners are Ken Pitman A1, Homer Cravens B1, Steve Livingston C1, and Russell Haskell D1, Russ Longley E1.

At this time I would like to recognize two outstanding performances. First is Homer Cravens. Homer is a Senior Veteran who shot a 99 to win B class. Homer was our director for 21 years and has served NHSSA as President, and chief referee many times. He gives us all inspiration with his constant commitment and many years of great performances. The second shooter I would like to recognize is Steve Livingston. Steve also shot a personal best with a 99 in the 12 gauge in C Class. Steve is always there to lend a hand and help out. Thank you Homer and Steve for your participation in Skeet.

The 410 Event was won when Greg Welch out lasted Roger Boisse in a shoot off of 96’s. Roger came close to defending the title that he won last year with a 99. Roger settled for RU this year and our Class winners are Mark Vaillancourt A1, Marcel Vaillancourt B1, Al Morel C1, and Russell Haskell D1.

HOA revealed Mark Vaillancourt CH with 390, Greg Welch RU in a shoot off over Greg Williams. The Class winners are Greg Williams B1, Homer Cravens C1, and Russ Longley D1

Two Man team Championship saw Mark Vaillancourt and Richard Gath take the doubles, 12, and 410, and Ken Pitman and Joe Pachucki won the 20 and the 28 gauge events.

The 5 Man team 12 gauge event was won by Ken Pitman, Marcel Vaillancourt, Mark Vaillancourt, Chuck Little, and Greg Welch.

I want to thank everyone who came to this years shoot. I also would like to thank everyone who helps make the shoot successful.

Thank you, Mike, Felipe, Russell, Steve, Al, Joe, Ken, Marcel, Mark, Greg, and all the wives and women that helped out in the kitchen. A special thank you to the referee’s Mike Aho and Bud.Barrett. Last I would be remiss if I did not thank Naomi. Thank you.
